5th Inter-school Rugby Tournament held in Islamabad
Rugby matches among teams from various schools of Islamabad were played in 5th Inter-school tournament 2009, held at F-10/1 rugby ground. Teams from Beacon house school system, City School, DHA Lahore, Global System of Integrated Studies (GSIS), Westminster played in the tournament.

Matches were divided into groups on the basis of age and class. In final match between the teams of A-level group, GSIS won against Westminster school by 15-0. In O level group, GSIS won against City school by 20-0 and in junior group consisting of 6th and 7th classes, GSIS defeated Westminster school by 35-0. Adnan from Westminster, Mustafa Mehdi and Ali Dawood from GSIS school system were declared best players of the tournament

An exhibition rugby match between teams of Red Bull and Air Blue was also played in the tournament. No team could win the match.

Director sports Capital Development Authority Mr. Sana-ullah Aman was chief guest who distributed shields and certificates to successful teams. While talking to media, he said that CDA is always willing to promote sports’ activities in capital. Islamabad rugby football club and GSIS rugby football club successfully organized the 5th Inter-school rugby tournament 2009.

The tournament was sponsored by Air Blue, Red Bull and CDA. Islamabad rugby club and GSIS rugby club especially thanked to CDA for its continuous support in organizing this successful sports event.

 

This year seasons first tournament has been Organized under the Auspices  of Islamabad Rugby Association in ISLAMABAD to start to Rugby season in Pakistan on 24th January 2009. It is 5th Inter School tournament. There are 9 Schools participating in the tournament this year, Seven from Islamabad and 2 from Lahore. Schools details are:

  6. ·         Head Start

  7. ·         West Minister

  8. ·         DHA

  9. ·         Lahore Schools

 The tournament is arranged by Islamabad Rugby Football Club in collaboration with GSIS School. Islamabad Rugby Football club is one the most active club in promotion of Rugby in Pakistan. GSIS School is amongst the pioneer in Pakistan in game of rugby due to management’s keen interest in game.   

GSIS rugby team will defend the title which they are winning consistently for last two years; this win can also give them a hat-trick this year.  

This is a Ten a side tournament. There are two categories of teams with respect to age group. First group is under 13 and the second is under 17. This year there will be two teams from each school, so it will make a total of 18 teams.

As Pakistan Ruby Union under 20 team will be participating in the Under20 Asian championship national team scouts will be on hand to Single out talented Players For the Under 20 National side Camp.

One of the most important and thrilling part of the tournament is the match at the end of the event between ISLAMABAD RED BULL vs. ISLAMABAD AIR BLUE.

Overall tournament won by GSIS School by dominating all three main Groups. Capital Development Authority’s Director General Mr. Sana Ullah Amman distributed the Prizes in the ceremony.
