comfortably by 36 to
O. In other matches
Fata, WAPDA and HEC
made their first
appearances ever in
the 12 team Pakistan
National
Championships.
Fata lost to Punjab
B 15 points to 5,
and to WAPDA 0-22.
WAPDA were also
victorious 21-0 over
the more fancied
Punjab B to win Pool
B.
In Pool A Punjab A
confirmed their
favorite status by
easily overcoming
both Punjab South
and Sind. Their
margin of victory
over Sind was 57-0,
the widest winning
margin of the day.
Pool
C was won by seeded
team Islamabad who
strolled over NWFP
34-0 and beat HEC
but not before
conceding a try.
Pool D was won by
Police who beat both
LUMS A and LUMS B by
comfortable margins.
In the quarter finals to be held tomorrow Punjab A will face Punjab B; WAPDA faces Sind, Islamabad faces LUMS B and Police face HEC.
The finals will be played between 3 30 and 5 pm

Championship
Servis Cup 2009
The 18th National Rugby
Championship, Servis Cup
2009 will take
place from April 11 to 12,
2009 at the Punjab Football
Stadium in Qaddafi
Stadium, Lahore.
The championship is being
played on a 7-a-side format,
being participated by the
Departments, Provinces and
Educational Institutions. 16
of the top rugby
teams will compete
for the prestigious Servis
Cup
2009 and to have the honor
of being called the National
Champions.
The championship will be
conducted over two days
starting at 11 am on
Saturday 11th
April 2009, the teams
will compete in a round
robin format within 4 pools
on the first day. On Sunday
the teams will play in a
knock out format to compete
for the Bowl, Plate
and Servis Cup positions.
This will be a full weekend
of fast and furious rugby
with the best rugby players
in the nation participating.
The teams to watch would
be Punjab the last years
champions as well as Lahore,
Islamabad and the upcoming
Pakistan Police who last
year reached the final after
beating higher seeded teams.
It will also be interesting
to see new teams that will
be participating in the
tournament for the
first time and have been
training very hard i.e.
WAPDA, HEC and FATA, who all
have just recently been
granted membership in the
Pakistan Rugby Union.
Rugby is a fast spreading
across all parts of
Pakistan. PRU (Pakistan
Rugby Union) is a full
member of the IRB
(International Rugby Board),
the governing body of this
Sport , registered member of
Pakistan Sports Board
and has recently also been
given full membership in the
Pakistan Olympic
Association.
The National Rugby Selection Committee will be busy hunting for talent during this Championship, as the squad for national team is being prepared and finalized for the Asian 5 Nations tournament being held in Kaula-Lumpur, Malaysia in the 1st week of June 2009. This year Pakistan is participating in Division-2 and will face China in the first game.
