residents could play their sports. Rugby was one of the popular
sports at that time.
From 1909, Rugby was played attentively every
Saturday at the club. First, the players were merely foreigners;

an English alumnus so fond of rugby, gathered his colleagues at
the post a Telegraph Department to practise the game at the ground
of Vachiravudh College and also recruited the senior students to
join the play.
In 1938, the Siam Rugby Football Union was finally
founded, the office was situated at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club,
Pathumwan. Prince phitayalongkorn was the union’s first president.
In October of the following year, the union held
the first cup championship match among the members. It was called
the British Council Cup. The championship cup, which is still being
used until the present day, was provided by His Excellency, the
British Ambassador.

activities. However, in 1943, the Rector of the Physical Education
Department, Phraya Chindaraksa, organized the competitions instead.
